Our Kava Varieties

Usually, Pentecost Borogu and at least one of the other kava cultivars will be available to drink any given evening.

Pentecost Borogu – The most-consumed and probably best-known drinking kava in the world. Ours is a blend of 80/20 Root/Chip we get from Pentecost island. It is a very smooth blend that has quite strong mind and body effects. A great

Melakula Borogu – A special twist on a popular kava plant. This kava is the same as the above, but the local tradition of preparation is to peel the dark outer skin off of the roots, leaving an extremely mellow, almost milky beverage, with moderate mind but very strong, pleasant bodily effects. The taste and potency make this an excellent daily drinking kava.

100% Lateral Root Borogu – As if standard Borogu did not have enough of a kick, we bring you a next-level kava. No “chips” or “stump root,” just pure, long, skinny, nutrient-gathering lateral roots, prepared to perfection. Slightly more of a bite than the standard with a very powerful relaxation effect.

Tanna Ahouia – Tanna island is known for having the world’s most famous cargo-cult, and the the world’s most potent kava. With thick, awesome lateral roots, this cultivar (also known as “Kaolik”) is the plant behind the legend. The lactone profile of this kava makes for mellow bodily effects and some of the strongest effects on the mind of any kava we have experienced.

Tanna Marang – The other kava from Tanna we carry is the type used for ceremonies on the island. While Ahouia is used often for social-drinking, Marang is used when tribe members want to sit below their sacred banyan trees and “listen to the kava.” A very well balanced kava whose heady effects are on par with its ability to enhance gravity. Another kava that lives up to the Tanna name.
